In the early hours of a Sunday morning in McCalla, Alabama, the life of 32-year-old Lanetta Mechelle Palacios was brought to a tragic and violent end. Inside her home on Timber Leaf Loop, a domestic dispute escalated, resulting in her death from what authorities described as apparent blunt force trauma. The incident, which unfolded on April 7, 2024, was made even more harrowing by the presence of at least one child under the age of 14.
Law enforcement and emergency services were
dispatched to the residence at approximately 4:04 a.m. after receiving a report of an unresponsive person. Upon their arrival, deputies found Palacios unresponsive in a room. Despite the efforts of McAdory Fire and Rescue, she was pronounced deceased at the scene shortly after her body was discovered at 4:31 a.m. The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office immediately began a homicide investigation.
The investigation quickly identified the suspect as Lanetta's husband, 36-year-old Peter Pablo Palacios of Bessemer. He was taken into custody by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office just a few hours after his wife's body was found. Due to the circumstances of the crime, specifically that it was committed in the presence of a minor, he was charged with capital murder.
Following his arrest, Peter Palacios was booked into the Jefferson County Jail, where he is being held without bond. The case is being treated as a domestic violence homicide, and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate the specific events that led to the fatal altercation.
