On the night of June 16, 2022, in McCalla, Alabama, 46-year-old Brian Keith Lovoy, a male, was fatally shot. The incident that led to his death unfolded in the 5900 block of Coleman Lakes Road.
Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the residence at approximately 11:08 PM to investigate a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mr. Lovoy deceased from a single gunshot wound.
The investigation into the circumstances of the shooting revealed that it occurred subsequent to an alleged altercation.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, reports indicated that Mr. Lovoy had assaulted a family member. It was this family member who, in response, fired a single shot, reportedly in self-defense. Following the incident, no arrests were immediately made. The case and the evidence gathered were to be handed over to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office in Bessemer for a determination on whether criminal charges would be pursued.
