In the early morning hours of June 5, 2024, a tragic event unfolded in Anniston, Alabama, leading to the death of 44-year-old Jonathan Rodrico Carter. Officers from the Anniston Police Department were dispatched to the 1700 block of Electronics Drive shortly after 3 a.m. following a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon their arrival, authorities discovered Carter inside his vehicle, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel promptly transported him to the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Carter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Anniston Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting. Their inquiries quickly led them to identify 30-year-old Keeon Chatman of Talladega as a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting. The day after the incident, on the afternoon of June 6, 2024, Keeon Chatman voluntarily surrendered to authorities at the Anniston Police Department.
Following his surrender, Chatman was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Jonathan Carter. Carter was remembered as an amazing and humorous individual by those who knew him. His funeral service was scheduled for June 14, 2024, at the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, with his interment to follow at Edgemont Cemetery.
