On the evening of December 13, 2023, a burst of gunfire in the Norwood Bottoms area of Birmingham, Alabama, tragically cut short the life of 19-year-old Kayla De'Nae Hall. Hall, a Black female and recent graduate of Spain Park High School with a passion for doing hair and nails, was with two other people in what police believe was a targeted attack in the 1700 block of 32nd Place North.
Inside a white Ford Focus riddled with bullet holes, Hall and 25-year-old Keithan Parker were found
suffering from gunshot wounds. A third individual, another woman, was also critically injured but managed to drive the car to a nearby Chevron gas station on 12th Avenue North in a desperate attempt to find help. Upon their arrival at the gas station, Birmingham Police and Fire and Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene. Despite their efforts, both Kayla Hall and Keithan Parker were pronounced dead inside the vehicle. The surviving woman was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The Birmingham Police Department launched a double homicide investigation into the deaths of Hall and Parker. To date, no arrests have been made in the case, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. Investigators have urged anyone with information to come forward, and a reward has been offered for tips that could lead to solving the crime. Kayla Hall's mother has made public pleas for answers, expressing her belief that her daughter was an innocent bystander caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. The family continues to seek justice as the investigation into the tragic shooting remains ongoing.
