In the early morning hours of Friday, October 6, 2023, the life of 27-year-old Dyron Malik Mays Perry of Midfield, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Perry, a Black male, was in the parking lot of a nightclub located in the 800 block of 2nd Avenue North in Birmingham when gunfire erupted shortly after 1 a.m. The chaotic scene left two men dead and a woman critically injured.
Responding to the sound of gunshots, a North Precinct officer on patrol discovered a harrowing sight in the
nightclub's parking lot. Perry was found on the ground, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Alongside him were 22-year-old Jjuan James Cole of Birmingham, who was also fatally wounded, and an adult female with life-threatening injuries. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced both Perry and Cole deceased. The injured woman was rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
The initial investigation by the Birmingham Police Department suggests that one or more unknown suspects opened fire in the parking lot, striking the three victims. Several vehicles and a local business were also damaged by the gunfire. The motive for the shooting remains undetermined, and the case is being investigated as a double homicide.
As of now, the investigation into the deaths of Dyron Malik Mays Perry and Jjuan James Cole remains ongoing. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and no suspects have been publicly identified. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
