In the summer of 2019, a Washington, D.C. community was shaken by the violent deaths of a father and son. On the evening of Friday, July 19th, police were called to conduct a welfare check at a residence on Queen Street in the Northeast quadrant of the city. Upon entering the home, officers discovered the bodies of 57-year-old Hugh Washington and his 17-year-old son, Ahkii Washington-Scruggs. Both men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
