On April 26, 2023, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers were present at the Food Mart located at 2258 Bessemer Road on an unrelated call when they encountered 56-year-old Richard Mark Carter lying in front of the store, requesting medical assistance. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived promptly and observed what appeared to be a stab wound on Mr. Carter.
