On July 25, 2023, 19-year-old Damein Dewayne Barber was found unresponsive in the yard of a residence in the 1600 block of 27th Street North, Birmingham, Alabama. A Birmingham police officer on patrol discovered him around 12:40 a.m. Barber was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:20 a.m. The Jefferson County Coroner's Office later confirmed that he had sustained a gunshot wound.
