On March 20, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., 30-year-old Devarte Dedre Thomas was found unresponsive with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of 74th Street North in Birmingham, Alabama. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that Thomas was inside a vehicle when he was shot.
