In the early morning hours of Saturday, April 8, 2023, the life of 40-year-old Jeffrey Pleasant, a Black male from Birmingham, Alabama, was tragically cut short. Just before 1:00 AM, Birmingham Police Department's West Precinct officers were dispatched to a residence in the 600 block of Carline Avenue following a report of a person shot.
Upon their arrival, officers entered the home to find a grim scene.
Jeffrey Pleasant was discovered in a room, unresponsive, having sustained an apparent gunshot wound. Despite the quick response of Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel, Pleasant's injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The initial stages of the investigation painted a picture of a social gathering that took a fatal turn. Detectives believe a small party was taking place at the residence when an argument erupted between Pleasant and another man. This verbal altercation escalated horrifically, leading to gunfire that struck and killed Pleasant. As of the latest available reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects. The Birmingham Police Department's Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the case and has appealed to the public for any information that may lead to an arrest.
