On May 27, 2023, 15-year-old Jani "Cupcake" Barker was fatally shot in Fairfield, Alabama. The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 5000 block of Parkway Alley. Barker was transported to Children's of Alabama Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that evening.
