In the fading daylight of Memorial Day, a sense of loss descended upon Fairfield, Alabama. Tatyanna Sherese Hannah, a 17-year-old female, was riding as a passenger in a vehicle when gunfire erupted at the intersection of Overlook Place and Hillside Drive. Struck by the hail of bullets, she was rushed to UAB Hospital, but her young life could not be saved.
The incident, which occurred on May 29, 2023, left a community reeling and a family shattered.
The investigation into Tatyanna’s death quickly focused on two main suspects: 20-year-old twin brothers, Ke'Andre and Ke'Autay Fuller. Within days, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office announced that they had secured warrants for the arrest of both brothers. The charges laid against them were severe, including capital murder, for which there is no bond. In addition to the murder charge, the Fullers each faced three counts of attempted murder and one count of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, reflecting the grave danger posed to the other individuals in the car with Tatyanna.
The manhunt for the Fuller twins concluded the following week. Acting on a tip, the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force located and apprehended Ke'Autay Fuller at an apartment complex in Fairfield. Shortly thereafter, his brother, Ke'Andre Fuller, negotiated his surrender and was taken into custody without incident. Both were booked into the Jefferson County Jail to await legal proceedings.
Detectives began to explore the possibility that Tatyanna's murder was connected to another recent tragedy. Just two days prior, 15-year-old Jani “Cupcake” Barker was shot and killed. The suspect in Barker's death, a 15-year-old male, was the younger brother of the Fuller twins. This familial link raised questions about whether the two fatal shootings were related, adding another layer of complexity to the investigation as authorities worked to bring justice for both young victims.
