On March 7, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 900 block of 46th Place North, within the Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes public housing community. Upon arrival, they discovered a white SUV that had collided with a utility pole. Inside the vehicle, 26-year-old Tamaiya Morton was found unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced her deceased at the scene.
