On June 19, 2024, 15-year-old Cornelia Rose Lathan was fatally shot in her Birmingham, Alabama, apartment. At approximately 12:20 p.m., officers responded to reports of two juveniles shot at the Park Place apartment complex on 25th Street North. Upon arrival, they discovered Cornelia and her 5-year-old brother suffering from gunshot wounds. Cornelia was pronounced dead at the scene, while her brother was transported to Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
