On October 1, 2022, Denarieya Letrex "DL" Smith, a 30-year-old inmate at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally assaulted by fellow inmates. The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning, during which Smith was brutally beaten and stabbed.
