In the early evening of August 10, 2022, the life of 22-year-old Joshua Alexander Adams, a Black male from Hueytown, Alabama, was tragically cut short. At approximately 7:17 p.m., Adams was shot during an assault that unfolded in the 1000 block of 26th Avenue North. He was quickly transported to UAB Medical West Hospital in Bessemer for treatment of his injuries.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his wounds shortly after his arrival.
The investigation into the fatal shooting led the Hueytown Police Department to a suspect. On Sunday, August 14, 2022, authorities arrested 26-year-old Patrick Levell Johnson. He was subsequently charged with capital murder and shooting into an occupied dwelling in connection with Adams' death. Following his arrest, Johnson was transferred to the Jefferson County Jail. At the time of Johnson's arrest, law enforcement officials indicated that the investigation was still active and that further arrests were possible.
Joshua Alexander Adams was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 11, 2000. He attended Bessemer City High School and was a member of the Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bessemer. He was a father, leaving behind a young daughter. His funeral services were held on August 20, 2022, and he was laid to rest at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
