In the late afternoon of September 21, 2022, a heated argument in Anniston, Alabama, escalated to a fatal conclusion, claiming the life of 54-year-old James D. Livingston of Alexandria. The dispute, which turned into a physical altercation, ended when Stanley Lynn McCrelles, 59, of Anniston, allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Livingston.
Emergency services were called to the scene in the 4000 block of Bynum Leatherwood Road around 4:30 p.m. However, before authorities arrived, Livingston had already been taken by a private vehicle to Stringfellow Hospital for his injuries. Due to the severity of his condition, he was then life-flighted to UAB Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
Anniston Police Department investigators quickly identified McCrelles as the suspect in the stabbing. After fleeing the scene, McCrelles was located at his residence the following afternoon, September 22, 2022, and was taken into custody without incident. He was subsequently transported to the Calhoun County Jail and charged with murder, with his bond set at $760,000. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation is ongoing.
