On November 30, 2021, at approximately 5:40 p.m., Birmingham police and firefighters responded to a fire report in the 1900 block of 15th Avenue South. Upon arrival, officers observed smoke emanating from one of the apartment units. Inside, they discovered the body of 53-year-old Steve Austin Threatt, who had been fatally stabbed. Firefighters managed the blaze, and the Birmingham Police Department initiated a homicide investigation.
