On November 12, 2021, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Birmingham police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating over 30 gunshots in the 1100 block of 33rd Street Southwest. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men, Anthony Murray, 22, and Ronald Deshawn Smith Jr., 24, unresponsive in the backseat of a vehicle; both had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.
