On September 17, 2021, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a single-vehicle accident in the 2800 block of Norwood Boulevard. Upon arrival, a community member informed them that the driver, 28-year-old Ashley Canty, had suffered a gunshot wound. Canty was found unresponsive in the driver's seat and was transported by Birmingham Fire and Rescue to a local hospital with serious injuries.
