On August 25, 2021, 47-year-old Kevin Devose was fatally shot inside the Smart Food Mart located at 900 20th Street in Ensley, Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred just before 10:00 p.m., when officers from the West Precinct responded to a call reporting a person shot inside the convenience store. Upon arrival, they found Devose lying on the floor, suffering from a single gunshot wound to the head. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced him deceased at the scene.
