Do you know who murdered 46 year old Michael Parker in 2020? Michael Deshon Parker, 46, a Black male from Wilmington, Delaware, was remembered in obituary records as a Wilmington native who had worked in construction and left behind family, close friends, and other relatives. His life ended on December 21, 2020, after a shooting in Wilmington’s Hilltop area.
That afternoon, Wilmington police were called to the 200 block of North DuPont Street for a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Parker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken from the scene for medical treatment, but the injuries were too severe, and he later died at the hospital.
For a long stretch after the killing, the case remained unresolved. The investigation was first handled by Detective Mackenzie Kirlin of the Criminal Investigations Division, then continued through Wilmington’s Cold Case Unit. The case did not disappear; investigators kept working it after the early leads had gone quiet, and that later effort eventually brought them to a named suspect.
In 2023, nearly three years after Parker was shot, Wilmington police announced a break in the case. Investigators identified 33-year-old Evette Wynn as the prime suspect in Parker’s murder. Authorities said the case was presented to a New Castle County grand jury on July 24, 2023, and Wynn was indicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited.
At the time the charges were announced, Wynn was already incarcerated at the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on an unrelated matter. Reports said she had been in custody since September 2021 and was held on $150,000 cash-only bail in connection with the Parker case. Publicly available reports did not provide a detailed motive, a full account of what led investigators to Wynn, or a final trial outcome or conviction in the homicide case.
