In the small community of Houston, Alabama, the life of 49-year-old Michael Anthony Box, a male U.S. Army veteran, came to a tragic and unsettling end in December 2021. Known for his ready smile and a joke always on his lips, he was a man who found joy in hunting and cherished the time spent with his children. His life, however, was cut short in a manner that would leave the community in shock and lead to a swift investigation.
On Monday, December 13, 2021, authorities were called to
Michael Box's residence located at 957 National Forest Road 121. There, they made a grim discovery; inside the charred remains of his home, they found his body. The circumstances immediately suggested a violent end, prompting his body to be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of his death. The investigation into his death was quickly launched by the 25th Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office.
Just three days later, on Thursday, December 16, the investigation led to an arrest. Steven Terry Wilson, a 35-year-old man from Double Springs, was taken into custody by an investigator with the District Attorney's Office. Wilson was subsequently charged with the murder of Michael Anthony Box. Following his arrest, he was held in the Winston County Jail on a $210,000 bond. The charge of murder, a Class A felony, carries a potential sentence of 10-99 years to life in prison.
