On November 20, 2021, 19-year-old Amari Deonte King, a recent graduate of Montevallo High School and a freshman at the University of Montevallo, tragically lost his life in a car accident. The incident occurred just after midnight on Shelby County Road 17 near Pintaro Drive in Montevallo. King was a passenger in a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Bryan Cortes, which left the road and struck a tree.
