In the small community of Montevallo, Alabama, a midday dispute on November 25, 2019, tragically cut short the life of 24-year-old Marquis Derius Fields. The incident unfolded around noon in the vicinity of the 100 block of Nelson Circle in an unincorporated area of Shelby County, where Fields sustained multiple gunshot wounds. When deputies from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office arrived at the scene, they discovered his body.
The investigation that followed suggested that an altercation between Fields and another Montevallo resident, 31-year-old Derious Derann Garner, had escalated to a fatal exchange of gunfire. It is believed that Garner shot Fields, resulting in his death.
