On a Monday afternoon, the life of 18-year-old Antwaun Demaun Horn, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On October 18, 2021, at approximately 3:20 p.m., deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 300 block of Valley Road in Fairfield, Alabama, following reports of gunfire. Upon their arrival, they discovered Horn unresponsive in a narrow alley behind an abandoned house located at 317 Valley Road.
He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound.
Emergency services transported Horn to UAB West Hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. Back at the scene of the shooting, investigators recovered multiple shell casings, evidence of the violence that had unfolded. The area drew several onlookers, among them a man who was visibly distraught and identified by neighbors as Horn's father.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the case as a homicide. To date, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting. The motive behind the killing remains unclear. In an effort to generate leads, Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama has offered a cash reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to the charge and arrest of a suspect responsible for the death of Antwaun Demaun Horn. The case remains unsolved as law enforcement continues to seek assistance from the public.
