On December 30, 2021, 46-year-old Michael Charles Richard was found shot to death in his vehicle outside the abandoned Knights Inn motel at 1121 9th Avenue Southwest in Bessemer, Alabama. Richard, an urban explorer known for his TikTok account "AloneInTheDark," had been sleeping in a loaner car while his vehicle was being serviced.
