A quiet Saturday evening in Coosa County, Alabama, turned tragic on June 5, 2021, ending the life of 43-year-old Marcaus Odem of Sylacauga. Odem was walking along U.S. Highway 280 near Goodwater when he was struck by a vehicle in a fatal hit-and-run incident. The male driver and the vehicle remain unidentified.
The collision occurred around 10:30 p.m. near mile marker 52, approximately four miles northwest of Goodwater.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Odem was in the roadway when the unknown vehicle hit him, causing fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
State troopers are continuing to investigate the incident, but as of now, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. The case remains an open investigation, leaving a family and community searching for answers and justice for the untimely death of Marcaus Odem. His passing was noted in the obituaries of his father, Arthur Ray Odem, who passed away in 2018, and his brother, Demetric Ray Odem, who died in 2022.
