On June 27, 2020, 22-year-old Matthew Scott Sartin of Pineville, Louisiana, was fatally injured in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 59 near mile marker 103, close to Bessemer, Alabama. The accident occurred around 12:52 a.m. as Sartin was operating a 2000 BMW 1200 motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the crash.
