On February 9, 2020, 17-year-old Zykeith Peavy from Bessemer, Alabama, was fatally shot during an attempted firearm transaction. The incident occurred before 10 p.m. on the 4600 block of Little Drive, where Peavy had arranged to meet a 15-year-old individual to purchase a gun. An altercation ensued during the meeting, resulting in Peavy being shot. He was transported to UAB Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after 11 p.m.
