On July 17, 2019, 35-year-old Roderick Wilson was fatally shot during a confrontation with Birmingham police officers in downtown Birmingham, Alabama. The incident began around 6:53 p.m. when officers responded to a reported robbery at a convenience store on 23rd Street. Upon arrival, they encountered Wilson, who matched the suspect's description.
