Derrick Dewayne Pelt, 33, a Black male, was shot in Birmingham’s Smithfield neighborhood around 12:15 a.m. on July 3, 2008, on the 1100 block of 2nd Street West. He was gravely wounded in the overnight violence and was taken to UAB Hospital, where he died on July 4.
