In the late hours of a Saturday night in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the life of 33-year-old African-American male David Edison was brought to an abrupt and violent end. On August 24, 2013, in the 1200 block of East Kane Place, Edison was on the back patio of a residence with two women, reportedly in the process of a drug transaction with two other men. The relative calm of the evening was shattered when three to four armed men suddenly leaped over the backyard fence.
As chaos erupted, Edison
attempted to flee the sudden home invasion. However, one of the intruders opened fire, fatally wounding him. Witnesses in the neighborhood reported hearing the gunshots and seeing several men flee the scene. A neighbor recounted seeing a dark-colored van or SUV parked on the block with its engine running before the shots rang out. The men were seen running to this vehicle, which then sped away westward on East Kane Place. Another neighbor described seeing one of the suspects, who appeared confused, struggle to get into the black SUV before it sped off.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Milwaukee police launched an investigation into the homicide. According to a search warrant filed in the case, authorities believed the incident was an apparent robbery attempt. The warrant also indicated that Edison was a large-scale drug dealer who allegedly used the residence for sales while maintaining a separate stash house. A search of the home on East Kane Place two days after the killing uncovered heroin, cocaine, and numerous Oxycodone pills. A day after the homicide, a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were apprehended while breaking into the residence.
Despite the ongoing investigation and the leads generated, no arrests have been made in connection with David Edison's murder. The suspects, described as three to four men, remain at large. Police have not publicly identified any of the individuals believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting. The case remains an unsolved homicide, leaving questions and a lack of closure for those who knew the 33-year-old victim.
