In the early morning hours of Saturday, May 31, 2014, Joseph Walker, a 47-year-old African-American male, was at the American Legion tavern on Douglas Avenue in Racine, Wisconsin. Walker, a father of five, was enjoying the company of friends at the tavern. Just before he had left his home that evening, he told his family he was stepping out for a bit and would be back.
Around 1:30 a.m., two individuals entered the American Legion in what authorities believe was an attempted armed robbery.
