On February 26, 1998, 64-year-old Benjamin Owens was shot and killed while working the night shift at a Texaco Mart in Chesapeake, Virginia. The store, located at the intersection of Dominion and Great Bridge Boulevard, was targeted by an armed suspect in an attempted robbery at 1:34 AM. Owens was fatally shot during the crime, and the suspect made off with a small amount of cash.
