In the spring of 2009, the life of 38-year-old Raymond Anderson was tragically cut short in a violent encounter that remains a painful, unsolved chapter in Memphis. On the night of Sunday, April 19, 2009, in the Alpha Renaissance Apartments on Genesis Circle, a call about a shooting brought officers from the Airways Station to a grim scene. They discovered Anderson, a Black male, lying next to his white 1996 Oldsmobile, suffering from a gunshot wound. Though he was still alive when help first arrived and was able to provide some initial information, his condition quickly deteriorated.

Rushed to The Med in critical condition, Anderson fought for his life but ultimately succumbed to his injuries a short time later. Investigators at the scene began to piece together the events of that fatal evening. Witnesses described a young African-American male, approximately 5'11' and weighing around 230 pounds, wearing a light-colored t-shirt and dark pants, fleeing the scene on foot heading eastbound. The motive for this senseless act of violence is believed to have been robbery.

In the years that have followed, Raymond Anderson's case has grown cold. Despite the initial witness descriptions and the efforts of the Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau, no arrests have ever been made in connection with his murder. His death is listed among the city's unsolved homicides, a lingering injustice for his family and community. Community advocacy groups have worked to keep his memory alive, continuing to push for answers and closure in a case where a suspect has never been held accountable for the violent end to a man's life.
