In the warm evening of July 11, 2011, in Memphis, Tennessee, the life of 17-year-old Jacob Manuel, a Black male, was tragically cut short. Just after 8:00 p.m., shots rang out in the 1600 block of Ash Street. When police arrived, they found Jacob with a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
At the time of his death, Jacob had recently graduated from Douglass High School.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a gold Lexus with four male occupants driving south on Ash Street. Several shots were fired from the vehicle at a group of people in front of a residence, with one of the bullets striking Jacob. The vehicle then fled the scene. The Memphis Police Department's Homicide Bureau was tasked with the investigation into the shooting.
In the years following the shooting, Jacob's case has remained unsolved, and a call for justice has been a recurring theme within the community. Investigators have continued to seek information from the public to help identify the four individuals in the gold Lexus and bring closure to Jacob's family. As of now, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Jacob Manuel, and no suspects have been publicly identified. The investigation remains open as authorities continue to appeal for anyone with information to come forward.
