In the late summer of 2008, a wave of violence was sweeping through Philadelphia, a grim reality that would soon personally touch the life of Thomas Cherry. On August 30, 2008, the body of 41-year-old Thomas Cherry, a Black male, was discovered in the city. His death was ruled a homicide, another statistic in a year marked by a significant number of violent deaths in Philadelphia.
