In the early moments of a Friday morning in August 2015, the quiet of a Tacony street was broken by the discovery of a grim scene. Justin Jones, a 37-year-old male, was found in the driver's seat of his white BMW 740i on the 4400 block of Longshore Avenue. He had been shot multiple times in the upper chest.
Responding police officers found Jones slumped over in his vehicle just after midnight.
Despite the quick arrival of medics, his injuries were too severe, and he was pronounced dead at the scene approximately ten minutes after being found. The city of Philadelphia had lost another life to gun violence.
In the days following the shooting, police identified the victim as Justin Jones. However, the investigation into his death yielded few immediate answers.
