Do you know who murdered Angela? Angela Jean Monhollen, a 23-year-old mother of four, was pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse when her life was cut short in August 1989. On the night of August 6th, she was on her way to her late-night shift at a nursing home in Tulsa, Oklahoma, when her truck ran out of gas on the Gilcrease Expressway. It is believed she then attempted to hitchhike. This was the last time she was known to be seen alive.
She was reported missing the following day by her boyfriend after she failed to show up for her shift.
The initial search for Angela led to the discovery of her purse on a road just a few miles from her abandoned vehicle. Hope for her safe return dwindled as the days turned into a week. On August 14th, the search came to a tragic end when a city employee discovered partially decomposed remains in a grassy ditch on the east side of Yale Avenue, only three miles from where her truck had been left. The body was later identified as Angela through forensic evidence and tattoos.
Investigators believe that Angela may have been strangled, though an official cause of death remains undetermined. Adding another layer of mystery to the case, on August 11th, a fire, later determined to be the result of arson, damaged part of her residence. Despite the years that have passed, the case of who killed Angela Monhollen remains unsolved. The Tulsa Police Department continues to seek information from the public, hoping that a new lead will finally bring justice for Angela and her family.
