On November 1st of that year, Dunn and a companion, 19-year-old Phoenicia Dorsey, were discovered deceased inside a residence at 6923 E. Tecumseh St. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was Dunn's own brother who made the grim discovery after being unable to get in touch with him.

That vehicle was later discovered burned in Turley, Oklahoma, adding another layer to the mystery.
At the time of his death, Deyonta Dunn was known to law enforcement. He had a criminal history and was on the Tulsa Police Most Wanted List in 2011 for pointing a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm. Investigators have suggested that Dunn may have been the intended target of the attack and that the crime was not a random act of violence. Despite the circulation of these details and pleas to the public for information, no arrests have ever been made in the case. The deaths of Deyonta Dunn and Phoenicia Dorsey are now considered a cold case, leaving their families with unanswered questions and a sense of unresolved justice.
