On the morning of July 13, 2012, Richard Dwight Carter, a 19-year-old African-American male, was fatally shot outside Mike's Crossroads, a lounge located on the 100 block of 3rd Avenue North in Birmingham, Alabama. The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m., and Carter was transported to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
