In the early morning hours of July 13, 2012, the life of 19-year-old Richard Carter, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Birmingham, Alabama. The quiet of the morning was shattered by the sound of gunfire outside of a lounge known as Mike's Crossroads, located in the 100 block of Third Avenue North. When the echoes of the shots faded, Carter was left fatally wounded.
