Jayden Ford, a 17-year-old male from Huntsville, Alabama, was killed in a shooting on the morning of September 6, 2026. The violence unfolded near Mike's Mini Mart in northwest Huntsville, along the 2500 block of Winchester Road. Ford and another teenager were both struck by gunfire, but the wounded teens apparently made it or were moved a short distance away before police encountered them. At about 10:15 a.m., Huntsville police officers responded to the 2400 block of Mount Vernon Road, where they found both victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers immediately began providing medical assistance while waiting for Huntsville Fire & Rescue and HEMSI personnel to arrive.

Both teenagers were transported to Huntsville Hospital. Ford's injuries proved fatal, and he died after being taken to the hospital. The second teenager survived the shooting and received treatment for a gunshot wound. Investigators quickly determined that although the victims had been found on Mount Vernon Road, the actual shooting had occurred nearby on Winchester Road outside the convenience store. Ford had recently graduated from high school, making his death particularly devastating for relatives and friends who had been watching him move into the next stage of his life.

The Huntsville Police Department's Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and worked through the day to identify the person believed responsible. By shortly after 11:30 p.m. on September 6, investigators had taken a 17-year-old juvenile suspect into custody. Because Ford, the surviving victim and the accused shooter were all juveniles, police withheld the suspect's name and other identifying information. Authorities also did not publicly explain what led to the confrontation, whether the teenagers had arranged to meet, or what relationship, if any, existed among those involved.

The juvenile suspect was subsequently reported as being charged with murder in connection with Ford's death and first-degree assault for the shooting of the surviving teenager. The allegations indicate investigators believe the same suspect was responsible for shooting both victims. No additional alleged gunman has been publicly identified, and available reporting does not indicate that another person has been arrested in connection with the killing. Because the accused is a minor, the case has remained more restricted than an ordinary adult homicide prosecution, and no publicly reported trial, conviction, or sentencing had occurred as of late September 2026.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Ford's family and friends gathered near the scene for a balloon release and memorial. Loved ones prayed, shared memories and released balloons in his honor. A relative described Ford publicly as funny, respectful and loving, someone who was known for having a smile on his face. His killing, followed only days later by another fatal shooting involving a Huntsville teenager, intensified concern in the surrounding community about youth gun violence and prompted local leaders and residents to call for efforts to prevent further deaths.
