On March 24, 2008, William Beaumonde Royster, aged 46, was one of four victims found shot to death in an apartment located at 720 High Meadow Lane, Tree Top Apartments in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred early in the morning after police responded to a call to check on the welfare of individuals in the apartment. Along with Royster, the other victims were identified as Cherilyn Crawford, Andrew Babyak, and Timothy Stone.
Royster resided in the apartment where the crime took place. The quadruple homicide shocked the community, and robbery was considered a possible motive at the time of the investigation.
Despite an extensive investigation, the case remained unsolved for over a decade until 2019, when an arrest was made in connection to the murders. The tragic event left family members and authorities seeking justice for the victims. The case remained part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's cold case files.
