Brandon Covington, a 19-year-old aspiring rapper known by his stage name "Beezo," was tragically shot in the early hours of January 1, 2012, making him the first homicide victim in Charlotte that year. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. in the parking lot of Club Backstage on East W.T. Harris Boulevard, shortly after a music video premiere. Covington was shot in the head and transported to Carolinas Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
