In the late hours of a September evening in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a horrific scene unfolded that would claim the life of 37-year-old Consuela Arrington and three others in a brutal act of violence. On September 11, 2016, police were dispatched to a home on Holton Avenue following reports of gunfire. Inside, they discovered a devastating scene where Consuela Arrington, her 18-year-old daughter Dajahiona Arrington, and Dajahiona's 18-year-old boyfriend, Traeven Harris, had been shot and stabbed to
death.
The tragedy was compounded by the fact that Dajahiona Arrington was eight and a half months pregnant. Her unborn son, who was to be named A.J., also did not survive the attack. A fourth person inside the home, a 14-year-old girl, was also shot and stabbed but miraculously survived her injuries. The Allen County Coroner's Office later ruled the deaths of Consuela, Dajahiona, Traeven, and the unborn baby as homicides.
The investigation quickly led to a suspect, Marcus Dansby, who was 20 years old at the time. Dansby had a previous relationship with Dajahiona Arrington, which had reportedly ended after she became pregnant with another man's child. On the night of the murders, Dansby was found at the scene, his clothes stained with blood, and in possession of a large, blood-covered knife.
Following his arrest, Marcus Dansby was charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. The Allen County Prosecutor's Office initially sought the death penalty in the case. However, in May 2019, Dansby entered into a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder, as well as a sentencing enhancement for the use of a firearm. As part of the agreement, the death penalty was taken off the table, and prosecutors agreed not to seek a sentence of life without parole. In July 2019, Marcus Dansby was sentenced to 300 years in prison for his role in the killings.
