In the early hours of a late February morning in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a domestic dispute tragically escalated, ending the life of 25-year-old Katiza Binti Mohamed-Sayad. An Asian woman, Mohamed-Sayad was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the chest in the 3000 block of Drexel Avenue on February 28, 2025. Her death marked the seventh homicide in Allen County for the year.
The circumstances leading to her death began to unfold just two days after she had ended her
relationship with 22-year-old Jaskaran Singh. On that Friday morning, Mohamed-Sayad arrived at Singh's residence, accompanied by another man. An altercation ensued, during which Singh allegedly retrieved a handgun. He would later claim to authorities that he felt threatened and was unaware the weapon was loaded when he pulled the trigger.
Following the shooting, Singh himself contacted emergency services, reportedly admitting, 'My girlfriend got shot by me' in a recorded 911 call. He was taken into custody by the Fort Wayne Police Department hours later and subsequently charged with murder. During his interrogation with detectives, the weight of his actions appeared to set in. Upon learning of Mohamed-Sayad's death, Singh became distraught, reportedly striking his head against a table and the wall, and questioned if he would face the death penalty for his actions. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, involving the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Allen County Prosecutor's Office, and the Allen County Coroner's Office.
