Calvin Bell Jr., a 43-year-old African American man, was found dead on June 13, 2015, in Hobbsville, North Carolina. His body was discovered in a field adjacent to his home, located on NC 37 near its intersection with NC 32. The Gates County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Ed Webb, launched a murder investigation following the discovery of Bell's body.

The investigation revealed that Bell had been shot multiple times in the face and body, with .40 caliber shell casings found near his bod ...
