On March 9, 2024, 21-year-old Abijah Philemon Barkley was fatally shot in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. near the 400 block of Fairwood Avenue in the Westover Division. Initially, a witness reported a suspected overdose after observing Barkley in distress. Upon arrival, paramedics discovered he had sustained a gunshot wound. Despite being transported to a hospital, Barkley succumbed to his injuries.
