A bright afternoon in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens, New York, turned tragic on Monday, September 21, 2026. Malakai Adams, a 14-year-old boy, was near the Ocean Bay Apartments on Beach Channel Drive when he was fatally shot in the back at approximately 3:30 p.m. Emergency responders rushed Malakai to Cohen Children's Medical Center, but his life could not be saved, and he was pronounced dead.
